the morning after...

the morning after thanksgiving and i'm enjoying peace and solitude in my quiet but lonely house. i'm ok with the solitary-ness of my life right now because i know the future hold lots of busy-ness! So i really am enjoying this time.

are your children as difficult to photograph as these two? i took about 300 photos yesterday in hopes of something that would be decent enough for a Christmas picture. these are the best...if one was looking, the other wasn't.

after thanksgiving 'coma!

we had an early thanksgiving feast at noon and now the kiddos are off to Disney with their parents. the original plan was for mom and i to go as well, but my house purchase in July kind of dipped into my 'Disney fund'! I'm sure they will have a great time and I'm sorry I'm missing out on the excitement of seeing the 'Disney princess' for Maddie and 'mickey' for Eddie. oh well, another year!

a little christmas shopping

mostly for me...i didn't even {need} this stuff but i still bought it.

i thought this was beautiful and in such festive colors for fall. it can be paired with either a skirt or black pants.
a basic purple cow's neck sweater...this is the color of the they say!
i'm not sure what i'll wear this necklace with but i just thought it was unusual and cute.
another necklace
cute head-wear...i don't wear headbands much but this are flexible and comfortable
a ring to go with my purple sweater
and this purse...i just fell in love with it and hope it's not too gaudy! i've been eyeing some much more expensive purses so i thought buying this one (for $35) would get it out of my system!
this is a hanging earring/jewelry for me and one for someone else:)
and finally a few books i've been wanting. i can't wait to get my hands on the Pioneer Woman Cooks and read her great recipes! I've been curious about the Sarah Palin book and thought it would be an interesting read. i'm not a Sarah Palin political fan although I do like her as a person and admire many things about her. The Paula Deen book is a gift for my mom for Christmas.

and that is the end of my spontaneous Sunday shopping spree. i hope you can take a moment to do something just for you this season as well.

My good friend, "Peeptoe Jill" is having an awesome giveaway over on her blog. If you win, your skin will thank you!! Head on over to PP&P and enter to win!

Goodies and Cookbooks

My weekend visitors brought some adorable goodies last weekend and I wanted to make sure I posted them here. I enjoyed the cute breakfast platter this morning that Jill gave me. This platter is from Swoozies and for some reason I've never even heard of Swoozies! But, actually we have a new store in Nashville and I went there yesterday. How have I missed out on this cuteness?? Thanks, Jill!

While shopping yesterday I thought I'd try some new pancake mix for my Saturday pancake breakfast. This mix from Williams Sonoma is delicious and I added a teaspoon of vanilla. Yum!

Danielle brought me the cutest monogrammed (How'd she know I LOVE anything monogrammed??) travel mug with two different inserts made by monogram chick. She has some of the cutest things on her website, so take a break and visit her site to do a little Christmas Shopping. Thank you, Danielle!

While I was enjoying my lazy Saturday morning (contemplating my To-Do list) I decided to go ahead and make a pot of soup. Something about having a pot of soup on the stove on a Saturday makes me feel very comfortable and prepared for visitors. It's weird I guess, but I just like feeling very domestic! I have been making a huge pot of soup on Saturdays and freezing the remainder in batches. I recently read about a great way to freeze soup so it doesn't take up a lot of space in your freezer. Simply put the desired amount in a baggy, let the air out, and seal it. Then lay the baggies on a cookie sheet inside your freezer so they can freeze lying flat. After they are frozen stack them up and store them (standing up) in a small basket. I love looking in my freezer and seeing my homemade soup basket full of different varieties of soup all staked up like little soldiers! Ok, I know it's a little OCD but it makes me feel good.

So today's recipe was for beef cabbage soup from one of my Grandma's old recipe books. She recently cleaned out her kitchen and gave me a bunch of her old recipe books and I l.o.v.e. LOVE them! Her cookbooks tell the story of her life...quite literally. She is 88 years old and I will cherish these forever. She has written in every single one of them. Here she has signed the cover.

In all of them she has taped her favorite recipes inside, in no particular order. She has recorded her favorite recipes inside the covers of each book. She has written notes beside recipes like "don't skimp on the orange zest"...or "this recipe is a Sherrill family favorite". It's so cute!
She even taped recipes on top of recipes! Hilarious!!!
These are some of her old ones
And in the cabinet there are more. They are so old and used they are actually taped together.

Ok, well now I'm off to get my cornbread out of the oven and enjoy a bowl of soup. Oh yeah, and then I'm going to do something on my 'To-Do' list!

National Adoption Day

I saw Nia Vardalos on a talk show last night and was just amazed at her story of infertility and adoption. I am so happy she is speaking out on this issue and wanted to post some video of her promoting today as National Adoption Day. I am so happy adoption is getting a lot of good press today and pray that many orphans find their parents in America and all over the world as well.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of National Adoption Day, a national day of celebration of adoptive families and an opportunity for courts to open their doors and finalize the adoptions of children from foster care. Since 2000, more than 25,000 children have had their adoptions finalized on National Adoption Day. This year on November 21, families, adoption advocates, policymakers, judges and volunteers will come together and celebrate adoption in communities large and small all across the nation.

Granny Panties

Literally! Yes, this is my Granny's clothes line. I've always lived next door to my grandparents (what a blessing!) and every Saturday she would have her clothes hanging up to dry outside. I really never thought anything of it except when I brought the girls along to my mom's house (where I grew up) and they laughed and laughed at the "granny panties"! Thankfully my granny doesn't use a computer and won't really understand what it means that I posted her panties on my blog for the whole world to see! ha!!

Please Pray...

This little guy is at the top of my prayer list and his picture is on the door of my refrigerator (a place I visit frequently) to remind me to fervently intercede for his health. He has been in St. Jude Children's Hospital for several months receiving chemo treatments for a very aggressive brain tumor. Now he is in Florida receiving Proton Therapy (in lieu of radiation) to continue the treatments. He will be there for a couple of months and needs our faithful prayer for many different things. As with all cancer treatments, there can be complications and in treating brain tumors there can be many complications. We need to pray that he does not loose his vision and that his hypothalamus (this controls our hormones) will not be affected. These are the two most crucial things right now. Also, his mom is pregnant with baby you can imagine what she is going through right now. This week, his schedule is:

Tues: 11:45 a.m.
Wed: 1:00 p.m.
Thurs: 12:45 p.m.
Fri: 12:45 p.m.

Please join me in interceding for him during these specific times this week. Thank you. You can read more of his story here.

Weekend Update

I had a delightful weekend visiting with these girls...her, her, and her.

I did not take my camera out and about, but relied on their photography skills to capture the memories of our time together. Please check out their blogs for the photo details of the trip. All I can say is these are three fabulous ladies and we had a really good time together. I'm so happy that I was lead to start blogging many months ago because this online diary of sorts has introduced me to some really great people I would have never known otherwise. It's also brought me into the same path with some great adoptive families which has brought encouragement along the journey.

Weekend Visitors

I've had such a fun start to the weekend with Danielle and Jill! They arrived in Nashville Thursday night and we stayed up until 2:30 a.m. talking! Of course, we've known each other only through 'blogland' and this was our first in person meeting. It was so fun to actually see them in person! They are just exactly as I imagined they would be and I can't believe they're here!
We spent the day at the 49th annual Christmas Village because I knew Danielle would especially appreciate the Christmas cheer:)

We all bought a box of Tennessee T-Cakes! Yum!

We have a full day planned tomorrow and I'm looking forward to more talking, laughing, shopping, and showing them around the city a bit more.
