Sweet Miracles!

I've been following a few baby blogs lately, some I know and some I do not know. But there have been some very sick babies out there who need our prayers:

Please pray for The Tuley Family and sweet baby Jacob. His life so far has been an answered prayer, but he needs many more prayers on his behalf as he goes into surgery in the next day or so. Julie, his mom is a teacher in my district.
If you've been praying for Baby Harper you know the miracle of prayer. Love the hair bling!!

And finally, this is sweet baby Reed who had been waiting for a heart transplant for a while. His family's blog is here. He has his brand new heart and is almost ready to go home!!

Winter Decorations

We didn't quite take down all the Christmas yet...we still love the lights and wreath on the hearth in January!

I just love these little ice skates, mittens, and sled hanging at the hearth in January!

How I Spent My Snow Day...

I didn't want to do it, but I knew it had to be done. It was scary, cold, and creepy, but I bravely walked up the stairs to our attic and began the task at hand...

Remember from an earlier post I told you we had taken 1 truck load to the dump and 1 truck load to Goodwill, well we still have plenty of 'stuff' but at least you can walk on the floors in the attic. I'm posting these pictures mainly to have it chronicled with today's date that it was actually clean (trust me, this is good!) We'll see how long it takes my mom to fill it up again.
I've sort of organized things by categories, it could be a bit better but I was working in the cold today and didn't want to take the time to literally pull everything off the shelves. As you can see we have an assortment of dishes, kitchen supplies, serving pieces, decor, basically whatever you need for a home we have it!

Easter, Christmas, and Halloween Items

The steps are clutter free!!!

What you find when you clean an attic:
1. A dead mouse...eeewwhhh I couldn't bear to sweep him up so he's still up there!

2. Long lost toys from your childhood.
3. Kids coming to meet you...

Girlfriends are so fun!

These are some of the little girls my mom keeps in her daycare (including Madison in the top left corner). They love to dress up as princesses!

More Christmas

Yes it is the end of January, but my Aunt Judy is still decorating for Christmas! She always continues her Christmas cheer through February with dinners and parties and such and her house looks so pretty at Christmas time I think she should just leave it all up all year long!

SNOW DAY!

I love snow days more than my students...is that wrong? I hope you are warm and safe today. I am going to take my Christmas tree down today...finally!

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Happy Chinese New Year!

2009...The year of the Ox

You can read more information about Chinese New Year here. We are celebrating in my third grade classroom today by compiling a Chinese New Year folder with a map of
China, flag of China, red envelopes filled with candy, writing some words and numbers in Chinese, using chopsticks, eating fortune cookies, and reading an assortment of children's literature about China/Chinese Customs etc. They are having a really good time and I wish I brought my camera to school!

On another note, we cleaned out our attic this weekend and I am so sore! I wish I were here this week...
so I could relax my sore muscles! We had SO MUCH junk in the attic and I've been waiting to get my hands on it for years. You may know from reading other posts that my mom, I love her, but she is a major hoarder of goods! We took one full truck load to Goodwill and one full truck load to the dump and we still have more to go! We had to get get through the attic before we could fit (or re-fit) our Christmas Tree and Decorations back in the attic. (Yes, our Christmas tree is still up:)) We do have the ornaments off and packed away, though! We're making progress! We cleaned out things like all of my dad's textbooks from Pharmacy school in the 1960's, all of my brother's work from college and law school (three full boxes of textbooks and work), old magazines saved for no reason????, newspapers from when Kennedy was shot, Elvis died, and Princess Diana got married. They were all dry rotted because they've been in the attic not in a box or anything for 30+ years. In the treasures we found...

My Barbie Dream House from 1979...I loved that thing!

and also original Cabbage Patch Kid clothes, and an adorable Snoopy and Belle dress up dolls with a clothes closet from the late 1970's/early 1980's as well. I had forgotten these were in the attic.

Some other fun treasured items were a school book of my mom's when she was in 'Beauty School' after high school and before she and my dad married she had 'doodled' her name with my dad's last name in the front cover of it! She wrote what her full name would be...Mrs... haven't we all done that at some point? Report Cards and school work for both Eddie and me and even my dad! So it was a productive, fun, but sore weekend!

23 Months Paper Pregnant

What could be more appropriate than the 23rd Psalm for my 23rd month of waiting?

I never could have imagined the wait for sweet Molly would have taken so long. I'm not sure how much longer it will be, but I know it will be more than a year, maybe two more years. Currently China has sent out referrals to people logged in up to March 2, 2006...my LID is 2/25/2007. Rumor has it that it could take this whole year just to refer all of March 2006. I don't want to believe it, but it could be true. It's a waiting game and I'll play along (although not so happily) until I have my daughter...

Prayer Request

Go here to pray for this sweet family.
Pray for them too.
And, don't forget this one too.
But He hears the prayer of the righteous.
Proverbs 15:29

Honest Award

Thanks Danielle at Well, that's just fabulous for the Honest Scrap award! Thanks so much! You need to check out her blog and Blog Design site if you haven't already, by the way!

The rules...
1) Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design.
2) Show the 7 winners names and links on your blog, and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with "Honest Scrap." Well, there's no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
3) List at least 10 honest things about yourself.

Here Goes...
1. I'm obsessed with flossing. I floss after every meal. I have dental floss in my purse, my car, and my desk at school.
2. I've just recently (like 2 months ago) started watching Desperate Housewives (DVD's not the current episodes!)...a little behind I know. I've caught up through season 2 almost through Netflix.
3. I'm currently slightly obsessed about buying one of these purses...tell me I shouldn't!

4. I have no savings:( Which is why I shouldn't do #3.
5. I am on a new diet, read about it here.
6. I wished I had my own house. I dream about it and decorate it in my head. I have a 'house' file folder with plans, furniture, paint chips, and fabric swatches.
7. I have a huge 'to do' list and I'm blogging...
8. I bite my nails/cuticles when I'm bored/nervous/watching tv.
9. I love to cook, plan parties, and entertain.
10. I am not a good pill/vitamin taker, I can't swallow them very well.

I'll tag anyone out there who wants to play along. I find most blogs brilliant in content and design which is why I have a blogging addiction.

Skin Care

Update at bottom...

Jill recently left the sweetest comment about my skin on one of my posts and asked me to share my skincare routine in a post. These kind of comments go straight to a girl's head and so it took me a couple days to settle down a bit! Thanks Jill! I've always hated my skin actually because it is dry and pale. I always burn in the sun and I wanted to have a golden tan like the Golden Dream Girl Barbie. However, I've since come to grips with my skin and do try to put effort into keeping it healthy.

1. Cleanse. My favorite beauty product is the Clarisonic Skin Care System and I use it every night. My girlfriends can tell you I'm a 'bathroom' hog on trips and such. I never go to bed without going through my nightly beauty regimen! But this little product washes my skin and pores from all the dirt and grime from the day. Oprah had it on her favorite things one Christmas and I bought it for myself! It's a bit pricey, but it's worth it I think.

2. Sunscreen. I try my best to use sunscreen everyday, even in the winter months. I love the Peter Thomas Roth line because it is light and doesn't clog your pores. The body spray is wonderful for your arms and neck areas. The little sunscreen brush is instant mineral sunscreen powder and I use it in the afternoons at recess and dismissal at school. My 'duty' is car rider dismissal and so I'm directly in the afternoon sun for 40-50 minutes with both recess and dismissal. I don't want to smear sunscreen lotion on at those times so I just use this brush and I'm ready.

3. Water, I drink lots of it every. single. day. I crave it actually. I like to think it helps my skin.

4. Moisturize, because my skin is very dry I use a very creamy moisturizer at night (Cetaphil) and a lighter one for day (Oil of Olay). This can be tricky because I don't want to use too much to clog my pores, but yet I need to feel moisturized. I also am allergic to most smells so I have to have a strictly fragrance free moisturizer and they are hard to find!

5. Glycolic Acid Hydrating Gel I did't want to leave out my nightly use of this product. It clarifies the skin and helps to even out rough textures. It moisturizes without greasiness. Their are many different brands of gycolic acid, but this is the only one I've used.

Prayer Request

These sweet little twin boys were born on November 12th to a sweet couple I know through friends. Little Reed needs a heart transplant and is in the NICU at Vanderbilt. The wait for a healthy heart seems to be taking a while and so I thought I'd post this request to all my readers out there to lift him up in your prayers. Pray that he continues to stay healthy between now and when a heart becomes available. Of course to receive a healthy heart means another family has to experience a tragic loss. So let's lift them up also, wherever and whomever they may be. Little Reed seems like a fighter and I know he will make it home to his twin brother soon! You can read more about them here.

Philippians 4:6-7 (New International Version)
6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I'm Back!

I did have a great time away for two days. It goes so fast and it is so much work to pack if only for a few days. However, we (my mom, aunt, and grandma) met my aunt and cousin in Pigeon Forge, TN this weekend. My mother's family lives in North Carolina and so East TN is our halfway meeting point. Grandma wanted to visit family and friends for a couple months in North Carolina so it was a good place for everyone to meet as we dropped Grandma off with them. We stayed at the Christmas Place Inn and it is so beautiful! My snapshots do not do it justice at all.

We went to the Dixie Stampede for the final night of their Christmas Spectacular! It was a live Nativity among other things. Good fun and great show!

Santa even was there!

Santa comes to the hotel on Saturday nights with his guitar and sings to the kids. It was so cute!

Faye, my aunt Shelby's friend and me. We love it when she joins us! She is a professional photographer and I wish I had about a month to learn from her about taking pictures and camera setting and everything! It is so interesting to me...but still I keep my camera on the automatic setting most of the time:(
