4 months...a look back

Today marks our 4th month together as Mother and Daughter.  It has literally been the happiest time of my life!  When I leave my classroom door each afternoon I look forward to picking up Molly and going home to spend time together.  I have found she (and every child I've ever met) thrives on routine, consistency, schedule, and discipline.

We have found our stride together and life is really pretty smooth.  In the mornings I usually wake her up around 6:45 a.m. and we dress, do hair, brush teeth, and are out the door by 7:05.  Some mornings are better than others, but she is easily redirected to do what I need her to do if she is fussy.  We get to mom's house by 7:15ish and she happily (almost always) says "bye, bye", gives me a kiss, and waves at me through the window.  In the afternoon, I pick her up and we are home most every day by 4:00 p.m.  I always am ready to change my clothes and get comfy by then.  She "helps" me get dressed and then she always wants to lay on my bed and play for a few minutes.  She loves to stretch out on my bed and lay on the pillows.  It must feel good after a long day.  She rolls around, jumps and plays, and usually it turns into a tickling fest.  After that I usually will do some laundry (she loves "helping" with that too and I hate to have laundry piled up!) and then start dinner.  We eat dinner around 5:30, take a bath around 6:00, and play a little bit.  By 7:00 she is sleepy and ready for bedtime stories and her milk.  She's almost always conked out by 7:30.  She sleeps through the night and doesn't wake up 'til morning.  What a champ!!

Of course when we stray from this typical schedule she is more cranky and moody than usual.  If I try to stretch her to run errands or go out to eat through the week, it's never pretty.  She (like her momma) is a homegirl!  She wants to be home and when we pull into the driveway she claps and yells "hooray" EVERDAY!!!!!!  It is so endearing!

She loves her kiddie music CD's which are just a random collection of things that Ambre gave me and some I had.  In the car she says "off" for both "off and on" and tells me to turn the music on when she wants it and when she is tired of it she wants it "off".  She is very happy to play by herself at home unless we haven't spent time together in a while, then she wants mama by her side.  She loves her baby dolls and will rock them, "feed" then, and put them to night night in her room.  She "helps" me unload the dishwasher and dryer when I'm doing housework.  She really loves being outside and playing.  We've missed a lot of outside time this summer with her surgery and the extreme heat wave we had.  Hopefully we will make up for it this fall.  She's a good eater and loves drinking her whole milk.  She loves her bathtime and bedtime routine and enthusiastically reminds me if I forget to turn on a fan or nightlight.  The cutest thing she has done most recently is saying her prayers...when we sit down for dinner she clasps her hands together to sing "God our Father" and she does it again at bedtime...cutest thing ever!!

But let's take a look back at where we've come from:
